It was my honor to provide worship leadership for the 100th anniversary of a group that, from its very beginnings, has called for justice, peace and the eradication of poverty and oppression – the Methodist Federation for Social Action (www.mfsaweb.org). And what a celebration it was! The theme was “Make Plain the Vision!” A simple table was the focal point of our chancel area and over the course of the weekend, the table was filled with the vision of the reign of God. At the end of the conference (which took place in DC), we celebrated Holy Communion around that table and then took a message of our desire for peace to the White House. This picture was taken after we got back… we got completely rain-soaked! But the rain didn’t dampen our spirits which had been fed by our time and fellowship together. As Habakkuk heard from God, we just have to keep telling-it-like-it-ought-to-be, even if it isn’t yet. Here is Peterson’s version of the scripture: “And then God answered:
‘Write this.
Write what you see. Make the vision right-in-front-of-you plain!
Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run.
This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming.
It aches for the coming–it can hardly wait!
And it doesn’t lie.
If it seems slow in coming, wait.
It’s on its way!'”
