Many of you know that I have coined the term “threshold moment” as it relates to the transition at the beginning of worship from “ordinary” getting-underway-things (announcements, greetings, etc), to an extraordinary ritual moment full of anticipation, awe and mystery that gets our attention.  A threshold moment can also set the intention of the theme or season. It is a moment when we begin to sense that this can be an experience of and encounter with the Holy Living God that just might transform the way we do the business of our lives.

Perhaps my love for that moment in worship explains my LOVE for New Year’s Eve as an opportunity par excellence for creating a communal threshold moment into new awareness, new awe, new openness to the holy residing in our lives. I don’t know about you, but I’m needing new eyes to see the holy possibility of this new year.

I’m sharing a little peek into a Worship Design Studio resource with you this week. It is a description of some of the ways I’ve found to create a fun and spiritually meaningful time with friends in past New Year’s Eves. Even if you aren’t planning a party, see if any of these ideas resonate with you as little mini-rituals to include in your night.

I pray many, many blessings on your threshold moments. May you discover renewed peace and passion!
